What is Starbeast?
WHAT IS STARBEAST? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?We can´t tell you. But you can send us your story or stories of what is Starbeast, how did the name came up, and/or what does it mean! If it is creative enough and we like it, you might get free tickets to a NASCAR CAMPING WORLD Truck Series Race and meet Narain Karthikeyan. Here is a story Ted Bullard (Starbeast Motorsports President) submited. (NOTICE: He got free tickets and a lunch with Narain Karthikeyan at "Toast" in Davidson, NC)The origins of STARBEAST…….by Ted Bullard As the legend goes – The year was 1965, the exact location was classified however, we can tell you that it was somewhere deep in the jungle of Vietnam, and aside from the obvious war that was raging, there was another war, a hidden and secret war that only the bravest or craziest soldiers were selected to embark upon. We’ll call it operation tunnel rats since that’s the closest description of what these soldiers were selected to do – locate, then explore pitch black tunnels that had been dug into the earth by the enemy in an attempt to capture the enemy and ultimately, win the war. What our brave soldiers did NOT realize however, was the sheer extent of these tunnels in terms of their length and sophistication. Some tunnels literally stretched out for miles and were rigged with false floors that lead to a perilous death, or had false doors that were booby-trapped (yes I said booby) to explode when the soldier entered. One of these soldiers was named Ted Bullard Sr., and during one particularly harrowing exploration, he was captured and taken to one of the most notorious prisons in all of Vietnam, where he was brutally tortured and systematically starved for the next several years of his life.Approximately 3 years into his captivity, after an especially brutal torture session, he was thrown outside and tied to a fence post for more than 28 consecutive hours. At some point, his consciousness began to fade and for the very first time since he was captured, he truly believed this was the end of the road and he began to say his mental goodbye’s to his family and fellow soldiers.Suddenly, a cold splash of water across his back sent a shockwave up and down his spine. He struggled to look around him to see where it had come from but it was almost completely dark at this point so all he could do was whisper into the darkness “is anybody out there?”A voice whispered back to him, but it was almost too quiet to understand, plus English was clearly not their primary language. The voice simply said “don’t speak & don’t move, I came to deliver a message; The warriors from far away are here to rescue you and your men, they said to tell you there would be a war at this prison as the sun rises today.”Still in shock and trying to absorb exactly what he just heard, he somehow found the ability to ask “What do you mean the warriors from far away?” The Good Samaritan then whispered the word that has remained affectionately with Ted Sr. every day since that fateful night, the exact pronunciation will likely remain a mystery, but it was a word that in the Vietnamese language simply means “warrior from the sky”. As it turns out, these warriors he was referring to, were Delta Force and Army Rangers that had arrived via helicopters the night before on a rescue mission to free Ted’s dad and his fellow soldiers that had landed just outside this villagers farm who volunteered to locate the prison, then guide the elite soldiers back there once the recon mission was accomplished.I’m happy to report that the mission was a huge success and ended with the successful rescue of every single soldier in captivity. So what is this mystery word? I wish I could pronounce it, so does Ted Sr. In fact, the only reason to this day that we know what the Good Samaritan had meant that night was that shortly after his rescue, Ted Sr. went back to that village to locate and thank the heroic villager that had risked his life to save him. He told him that the word loosely translated in English would mean….you guessed it – STARBEAST (Warrior from the Sky)Naturally, when it was time to name this NASCAR team that was destined to make history and change all the rules, there was only one name that made sense…..the name that had been recited to young Ted throughout his entire life as a name that was to be passed down from generation to generation as the reason he was here. So now you know the real story behind the infamous name of STARBEAST……or do you?
