Racing in Indy
Racing at Indy ( ORP) on July 23 was the comeback for Starbeast and Narain to the Truck Series from almost a month and a half absence. Our last race was in Texas on June 4 and we finished 11th, our best overall finish up to now after 5 races. However, going to ORP meant going to a short track again, just like Martinsville. It meant changing the focus from what was previously learned on the 1.5 mile ovals. It was adventure again, trying to learn a track and the handling of the truck on the two practice sessions we had. It went well, Narain adapted very fast and it was time to improve the set up of the truck. We made a qualifying run at the end of the second practice and Chad Kendrick (crew chief) decided to made some changes based on Narain's feedback. We were ready to do a final qualifying run after the changes made that we thought would had given us at least a .2 tenths improvement. Suddenly a red flag comes out and there was oil on the track, so we just could not go out again and practice finalized. On qualifying, Narain did not push quite as he should and we qualified 23th. It was his first qualifying attempt on a short track and being with new and cold tires is not something you do very often, so we have some room to improve there. It was a good learning experience. The race started well for us, Narain passed about 5 trucks in the first laps and was sitting 17th. He was having a good battle with truck # 51 driven by Aric Armirola. I was sure he was learning alot because they were side by side for a couple of laps. We were already a lap down because the leaders passed us on the track, they were with an impressive rythm, however we were almost the lucky dog, we just needed to pass that 51 truck. Suddenly i see on the monitor the yellow flag and I said yes we made it! We will got our lap back. The bad news was that we were the yellow flag! The # 51 spun Narain and took himself out as well.Narain was able to continue with the truck all beat up. He managed to finish the race in 20th...The result was not that good, but the racing experience was good enough, it was good learning, and the best part was that he finished the race and was doing some really consistent lap times at the end of the race considering the damage.
